Where it started Daouda, a Guinean friend, sent me a cargo at the end of March. Since I did not receive it after two weeks, Daouda made inquiries to the national carrier. |

Ended up Both Daouda and I sent fax to them but, as you can imagine, there was no response. So, I looked for the French customs on the web and sent an e-mail to them. Two days later, I received a response saying, "The customs do not directly handle individuals. Please contact your shipping agent" So we go back to the square one. |

Off course, I am still upset Did I say enough? Not yet. The national carrier wrote to me and said,"We handle shipments in accordance with international rules. If a public office of a relevant country confiscates shipment because of irregularities, we stop transportation." Wait a minute. "Tell me exactly how that international rules work" - so I asked but I have not got any answere They made up story and confiscated stuff without giving us any chance to plead innocent. Then just sent me a four-page document long after everything was processed. Does a third country has the right to intercept shipment and do all these? Which regulation allowed them to punish innocent people? Please tell me, which international organization set the rules? What the name of the treaty? Which article is it? |

Still upset When Daouda shipped the stuff, he paid all the freight expenses in advance. They did not carry anything from France to Japan. Give me back the difference! Robber! The document in French says "masquer la fraude" (mask the fraud). What do they mean? The total weight of the shipment was about 60 kilos and the cow skins weighted about 7kilos. It is more than 10 percent of the total weight and the skins are bulky. The skins were not "MASKED" at all. |

Politically
incorrect remarks In April 2003, a group of airport workers were arrested in Charles de Gaulle for stealing goods from suitecases. It probably did not put an end to the organized crime in the airport. My friend says her stuff was stolen in France last winter I am suspicious that it was a theft and not confiscation. The whole thing reminded me of the nuclear testing conducted in the South pacific in '95 & '96. It does not seem to be long ago. |
